Pregnancy Update 38 weeks

Thirty eight weeks and holding! I had another appointment Thursday and it was the shortest and least exciting so far. I hadn't gained any weight (still at 129) and was still dilated at a one. My blood pressure was 98/54 which was a relaxing low so I must be at peace! We shall see where the week takes us. If it doesn't go anywhere then we'll back again next Thursday.

Here's a picture of Jay and I from last night. We went to the Charleston Chamber Gala and got to dress in our finest. It was fun to get out for what might be our last outing for awhile. I'd like to add that my husband tied his own tie!

Big Sister Gifts

Katie Jo got a couple of "big sister" gifts Saturday at the shower and we waited until we got home so she could open them.

She was very excited to open the package herself, which she did a very good job of!
She was way excited to find a quilt for her baby doll bed made by Mama. It matches the quilt that will be in Georgia's room.
She promptly put it on her head!
We did get her to finally lay down so we could cover her up. That lasted about 2.2 seconds.
She also got a pair of strawberry jellies from her friends Cayden and Danielle.

They had to pass the "jump test."

Both gifts were a fun treat for her.

Baby Shower 6-23-07

On Saturday I had a baby shower with my friends here in the Lowcountry. We had a great time and it was nice to get together to laugh, eat, and have a good time. Georgia got some nice gifts and now she won't have to have all hand me downs from her big sister.

How many people does it take to pin on a corsage? Not one...

Not two...But three people! Finally, the seasoned pro comes through, my mom!
The hostesses, Kayci, Kim, me, Stephanie, and Emily.
One person was so sweet to get outfits for both girls with matching colors. They both had sailboats on them too.

Georgia got lots of cute comfy clothes.

Pretty dresses.
The all important onesies.
This one says "Daddy does my hair."And a lamp to match the decor in her room.

This is the quilt my grandmother, Elsie, made for Georgia. It is even more beautiful in person and has all the colors and critters that will be in the decor for Georgia's room.

My Daddy dressed me

Jay and Katie Jo were playing together the other morning and the below photo shows the outcome of their time together.

Pregnancy Update 37 weeks

I am now full term! I had an appointment again Thursday and weighed in at 129.6 which was about a pound more than last week. So far, that is 34 lbs overall! The doctor I saw this week said she thinks I will probably go around 39 weeks again, but added that if I went to my due date we could start talking induction. I told her I couldn't think that far ahead and we'd cross that road when we got to it. Secretly I was thinking I'll go forever before being induced since that usually doesn't turn out to be the easiest of labors. What I love about this is when the nurse was doing the pre checkup she asked if I'd been contracting and I told her I felt like I'd had one constant Braxton Hicks contraction all day she then said "Oh that could be a sign of pre-labor so you better be ready for her to come any day." What this tells me is everyone is clueless as to when this baby will show up but it makes them feel better if they give you an estimate! The doctor checked me and said I was still dilated at a one and am 50% effaced. I also had the group B strep test last week and found out at this appointment it came back negative. This was just one more thing to check off the pregnancy calendar. I did start swelling a little lately and it hasn't gotten too bad. The doctor even commented on how little I had swelled which made me feel good. She checked the heartbeat which was in the 140's and that was about the gist of it. I go again in another week so we'll see if there is much more to talk about then.

I despise Chuck E. Cheese

Today Katie Jo and I went to a MOMS club event at Chuck E. Cheese and I learned a valuable lesson: Is it not important to get out of the house at any cost. We've been once before for a birthday party but what I forgot was that we had a coupon for the food, Katie Jo was content to sit in the mechanical toys without putting a token in, and there were lots of people to hang out with. Oh, and I wasn't 36 weeks pregnant. Today we paid for our food ($15 for salad, individual pizza, and a drink), I (stupidly so) got $4 worth of tokens, and there were only a few other moms there that were having to chase their own toddlers. And I'm 36 weeks pregnant. Needless to say it was our last trip for a while. Katie Jo did have a good time and she was most fond of the skee ball game. We did win 37 tickets which got us a very nice rubber ladybug with a sucker on the back to stick to things. I pressed it against a wall when we got home and it lasted up there for 15 seconds. What a deal! I'll step down off my soap box now. Enjoy the cute pictures of her prior to our departure and her snooze on the way there.

Baby shower with neighborhood moms

On Monday we got together with the moms in the neighborhood for our usual play date and they were kind enough to throw a little baby shower. Miss Georgia got a couple of cute new outfits, some socks, and they all went in together to get us a jumperoo. I was super excited about this since Katie Jo loved the one in the nursery at the church. But alas as each child is different Georgia will probably hate it and I will be so greatly disappointed. We shall soon see how it all turns out! The kids did enjoy sitting on the box as you'll see in the below photos.

Our visit with Uncle Brian

Uncle Brian came for a visit this past weekend and he and Katie Jo got to spend lots of quality time together. Saturday we went to the pool to play and catch some rays. Saturday evening we went to the park and it was the most pleasant weather ever. And for the Lowcountry in late June is a mere miracle. After Katie Jo wore him out running all over the place we went to Wild Wings for dinner. Sunday we stayed indoors mostly since it had turned seasonable hot (at least that's how the newspaper described it). That afternoon we did get to go out to Jay's soccer practice and Katie Jo ran around kicking the ball and having fun. I sat in her stroller. No I'm not kidding. Monday Brian got to experience real "mom" time by going with me to my neighborhood mom's play date. They had a little baby shower for me and the kids got to have cupcakes and juice. We had a great visit and most importantly Katie Jo got to play to her heart's content with her uncle!See, Charleston does have a mountain. The small spec on top is my child.Does anyone else having "The Hills are Alive" playing in their head right now?

Funny Girl

The other night Katie Jo was sitting on the bathroom counter after her bath and started making faces at herself in the mirror. She'd open her mouth as wide as she could which would in turn make her eyes pop open along with her eyebrows shooting up. She'd laugh and then do it all over again. She went on for about 5 minutes. Such an entertainer!

Father's Day

We, meaning Jay of course, had a great Father's Day. We had my brother, Brian, in town so it was a family-filled weekend. This morning Jay got a big breakfast before we headed off to church together. Afterwards, we made the below pics where Katie Jo immediately started sweating. It was only 100 degrees outside though. We, meaning I fixed it, had a big lunch with ham, home-made mac and cheese, green beans, biscuits, and lemon delight for dessert. Jay didn't get sweet tea but I reminded him his favorite mother-in-law will be here next weekend for just that purpose! He got some nice gifts including a new bible, Band of Brothers DVD collection, and Star Wars stamps. We had a relaxing afternoon and finished up with an outing over to the Y fields for Jay's soccer practice. Katie Jo had a great time running around (sweating of course) and playing with the soccer balls. Hope everyone else had as relaxing and enjoyable day as we did!

Tongue Twister

Lately Katie Jo has taken to sticking her tongue out. Not in a bad way but in a "I'm thinking real hard" kind of way. I zoomed in on a couple of shots to show off her new fascination.

Pregnancy Update Week 36

Well, I am now 36 weeks and officially one month away from giving birth! I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and weighed in at 128.8 lbs. I think this was a five pound gain from two weeks ago. I wasn't surprised considering I've felt a lot bigger lately. I had dilated one centimeter which means I could go into labor now or four weeks from now! I start going every week now so I guess we will officially go on "baby watch" soon. Last night I pulled out all the 0-3 clothes, blankets, and other newborn starters from storage. They made it all the way to the baby's room and I felt like that was good enough for now. My goal is to have the baby's room completely ready by next weekend or soon after. We are getting excited and trying to live each day as if it's our last as a family of three. I do feel a little swelling today so I'm sure that will only get worse over the next couple of weeks. I haven't started the true waddle yet, unless I've just gotten up after sitting for a long time! Other than that I feel healthy, happy, and full of boundless energy (OK, maybe scratch the last one off the list).

Another week in review (actually two)

The above pics are from a birthday party we went to on Saturday, June 2. Please notice my child is the one eating the birthday girl's cake in the group shot!

Another week in review? I'm as shocked as you. I still only have 24 hrs in a day but for some reason they have gotten more manageable and I am finding the time to keep up with this blog. Instead of just a running list of what we did this week I thought I'd insert some facts about Katie Jo along the way to keep it interesting.

Sunday- Church, home, church, and home again. That was our day. But the really fantastic part was Sunday nite when Jay taught KJ to do a front roll. He demonstrated and she quickly figured out how to tuck her head and roll- all around the room-and into the tv stand. Lesson learned quickly. It was fun to watch. Sorry no pics. I'm at the point now where it's more important to watch and enjoy instead of capturing on film. Just use your imagination.

Breakfast on the farm!

Monday- Pool date with MOMS club, home, nap, dad came home early, trip to park, picnic, and played on the playground. Great day! Poor Georgia is already getting lost in the shuffle and she isn't even here yet-although that horizon is quickly approaching. I realized there are just some things you can't pass from one child to the next so I ran out this morning and got her her very own baby book and keepsake box. The book will probably stand empty as KJ's has but at least I thought to get one. Katie Jo is learning so much and remembering the things we tell her which is nice. We have been working on safety lately and she has gotten so good at holding my or Jay's hand in the parking lot to "stay safe." She does like to jump while holding it but at least she's holding on.

This is her "cute smile." You ask her to do it and she cocks her head to the side and gives the sweetest smile ever!

Tuesday- First movie, Curious George. We have a summer series at the movie theatre where they have a morning G movie for FREE! She loved it and sat through the whole thing. Popcorn helped, along with skittles. Katie Jo has started following directions really well. So far she can "bring that here," "turn around," "look under," "go around," and some others that I'll think of later. She's brought me the phone twice when it was ringing which was great so I didn't have to get up. I'm very pregnant people, not lazy! She also can pull her own pants up, put on most shoes, put her clothes in the hamper and get out her own diaper. Next week we start driving lessons!

Wednesday- Beach with friends. We had just the best time out at the beach. She's at that perfect age where she enjoys the sand and water but doesn't want to venture too far. She's especially intrigued with digging a big hole in the sand till it fills with water and sitting and playing in it. She also was quite content to sit at the water's edge and let the tide come to her. This of course is all up my ally since it only requires me to sit. Katie Jo has a new love of chalk and thankfully it is a big bucket left over from teaching so we have plenty for awhile. She loves for me to draw pics in the driveway and let her name them. Her favorites are cat, dog, moon, star, car, mom, dad, and a baby. This has also been a good way to learn colors and so far she's gotten blue, pink, and yellow pretty down pat.

Thursday- Today was our lazy day. We ran one errand to Mt. Pleasant but that was pretty much our excitement for the day. This afternoon we sat outside and ate a Popsicle. I found out that Katie Jo is not into sharing without holding it herself so I ended up getting another and we sat side by side and ate our Bomb pops in peace.

Friday- We didn't have anything on the agenda so we decided to get out and have a cheap date together. We made our way to the sprinklers at the park. It was much more refreshing this time and the water was a huge relief from the blazing heat. Katie Jo ran around like a monkey and had a great time playing in the shooting water. Afterwards, we had a nice little picnic in the grass. Tonight we had a family cook out and enjoyed some steaks! Katie Jo has taken to covering her mouth when she coughs! It is the cutest thing and we have Gran to thank for teaching her this. Sometimes she'll give a little fake cough just so she can cover her mouth. So sweet!

Saturday- We had a party at the park with our Sunday School class. It was hot. Let me repeat, it was HOT! I kept my shirt on for about 15 minutes and finally had to take it off. I did have on my bathing suit underneath. We played on the playground for awhile, ate lunch, and then made our way to the sprinklers. I let Jay take over and I had a seat in the shade. Later, Jay and I got out while Katie Jo hung out with Sara, her favorite babysitter. We ran some much needed errands, went out to eat, and to a movie. I figured we're not going to have many more dates for a while so it was nice to get out on the town.

Sunday- Church, home, lunch, nap, and birthday party. We had a party to attend for a friend from our MOMS group who turned two. Katie Jo had a fab time playing with her little friends. Lately she has gotten into jumping off of things. When we come upon a step down, curb, or bottom step she loves to jump off of it all by herself. As long as it's the bottom we're fine. I almost had a heart attack when she tried to jump down the stairs. I think the great sucking of wind sound I made scared her enough to not try it again.

This week we had Vacation Bible School so there is very little to report. I worked with the fifth grade class and had a good time. I did get increasingly tired as each day passed and I truthfully was glad it was over today. My patience with fifth grade boy nonsense wasn't what it usually is and by today I found myself in the hospitality room more than with the class. Good thing I wasn't teaching this year! Katie Jo was in the young two year old class which meant she got to go to crafts, music, and recreation. She had a blast and every day I picked her up she was full of chatter which I couldn't understand but I'm sure was all about her day with her friends. Everyone said how cute she was and how easy-going she is. All I could think is Georgia will have a lot to live up to (and look up to!). Besides that we have come home and taken a long nap, piddled around the house and waited on Dad to get home. In other news Katie Jo loves orange juice. When I say love I mean LOVE. I try to limit it but it's hard when she comes down stairs with an empty cup and says "more." She gets a couple more ounces for effort!

I call this picture "big un and little un."
